A backwater valve is one of the simplest protections against a sewer backup. If you’re in Beaumont and thinking about one, here’s what it does, why your insurer may care, and how we install it.

What a backwater valve does

It sits on your main sewer line. Wastewater flows out normally. When the sewer backs up toward your house, a flap closes so sewage can’t come up through the floor drain.

Why insurers care

Many insurers now require a backwater valve for sewer backup coverage. If you’re buying or renewing sewer backup coverage, ask your broker whether a valve changes your options or pricing.

Rebates

Which part of the sewer line is yours, and whether there’s a backwater valve rebate, depends on the municipality. We didn’t find published rules or a rebate for Beaumont, so check with the City of Beaumont before booking work.

For comparison: EPCOR pays up to $800 for eligible Edmonton homes, and Strathcona County rebates up to $1,200 in Sherwood Park. Neither applies in Beaumont unless the rules say so.

Check the line while you’re there

Installing a valve means opening up the sewer line, so it’s a good time to look inside. A camera inspection shows roots, cracks or sags. If the line needs work, we’ll plan it, booking lining for a warmer month if that’s the right fix, since lining is best done in warmer months so the epoxy cures properly.

Interior or exterior?

Valves can be installed inside the basement or outside. Which suits your home depends on the line’s layout. We’ll explain the options when we look.
